February Horse Events!

There are two fun horse events coming up!

The first event is the Lake Earl Grange Cow Sorting clinics and contest…the clinics are being held on February 13 and the contest on February 14! These will be at the Del Norte County Fairgrounds.

The clinics are being held in 3 sessions: 8AM-12PM, 12PM-3PM, and 3PM-6PM. The cost is $25 for Grange members and $30 for non-members with a $10 cattle fee. There are still some spots available! This is a great way to introduce you’re horse to cattle and warm up your skills for the contest! The sign-up sheet is at the Del Norte County Fairgrounds office.  For more information, please contact Helen Ferguson at 707-218-5769.

The Sorting contest will begin at 9AM, opening at 8AM for sign-ups. The cost is $40 per team with a $10 per person cattle fee. So remember…if you have more than one team, you only pay the $10 cattle fee once!

The second event is a Cowboy Dressage Components clinic! We are so fortunate to have Mitch and JoLinn Hoover coming to town to teach this clinic! The clinic is February 26-28 at the Del Norte County Fairground’s Ace Arena.  On Friday, February 26 from 5:30PM-7:30PM will be the introductory session (no horses needed) that is required for participants and the public is welcome, too! Saturday (Feb 27) and Sunday (Feb 28) will be the clinic (with your horses) 9AM-4PM.  The cost is only $275! There are only a few spots left! Please contact Deb Snodgrass at 760-419-8843 for more information. Also, for more information on the Hoover’s and their schedule of clinics…go to .

Don’t Miss Poker Sorting Membership Details!

Lake Earl Grange is going to host Regional Poker Sorting! There will be a Northern California and Southern Oregon Regional Finals Poker Sorting Contest slated to be held during the Del Norte County Fair on August 6 & 7! More info TBA soon!

Poker Sorting memberships and regional finals requires purchase of $75 membership card (must be paid member to compete in Regional Finals). ***FREE membership is available for those who want to compete in only local events***

To qualify for Regional Finals, you must have completed 24 goes (each go, even if you have no time, counts as a go). For example; Lake Earl Grange is going to have three Poker Sorting contests in January, March, and May. If you ride with 3 different partners in each contest, you would receive 9 goes for each contest and that would equal 27 goes. You would qualify for the Regional Finals just riding in the local contests! If you have to miss a local contest, you may compete in the Humboldt County and/or Grants Pass contest to earn your goes.

For more information on the benefits of becoming a member…here is a link to the Poker Penning Association of America, Inc. site:

Please see Steve from Poker Penning Association of America tomorrow down at the Fairgrounds at the Poker Sorting Event! Signups are at 8AM and sorting begins at 9AM!
